To Begin Again – Insanity with a Knee Injury
Today my husband and I started Insanity from day 1….
Well, technically Day 2. We are not doing the fit tests, in large part because I am physically incapable of doing all the exercises at top speed. This is the first time since my knee injury in May that I have done any kind of jumping/jogging exercises. I took it slow. And when I could avoid jumping, I did so. For the warm ups I did slow jumping jacks and slow butt kicks and slow mummy kicks and slow jogging. for all the other exercises I merely did the exercises without the jumps, lightly tapping my feet and lifting my knees up to my chest. and of course, I wore my knee brace the whole time.
That is NOT to say that low impact meant low intensity.
I still burnt 87 calories in that warm up, according to my polar heart rate monitor, with a continued heart rate above 160. I put a lot of emphasis on my abs and kept up the pace as best as I could. When I did the in and outs I just stepped in and out. And when in doubt, I did squats and mummy kicks to keep a continuous exercises.
All in all – I’m pretty satisfied with myself.
I burned 342 calories.
Last time I did Pylometrics Cardio Circuit (pre-injury), I burned 351. So my low impact version of the exercises didn’t compromise my intensity.
Now I am sitting here icing my knee for 20 minutes and just enjoying what I have accomplished.
