Pasta Review: Mara’s Pasta & PASTA GIVEAWAY
I got some new whole wheat pasta to review! Anybody who knows me, knows that pasta is pretty much my favorite food group. Yes – I consider it a food GROUP. I made the change to whole wheat pasta slowly over the course of summer 2008 upon graduating from college. And now I don’t eat anything BUT whole wheat pasta!
So I was pretty darn excited when Mara’s Pasta agreed to send me an entire box of pasta for my review!

In my amazing box of goodness, I received 1 box of fettuccine, 1 box of spaghetti, and 1 box of penne pasta.
Within the box of spaghetti, the noodles were contained in a plastic wrap. I really liked this because I imagine it helps keep the pasta fresh and free of microbes. Something someone with a degree in microbiology is all to aware of – *wink*. This is a really nice feature for a food product that is purchased online and shipped in the mail.
As far as cooking Mara’s Pasta, I did notice that this particular brand of whole wheat pasta needed to cook a bit longer than I normally cook pasta. I was concerned because whole wheat pasta can very quickly go from cooked to overcooked (a lesson I learned the hard way when I first switched from the normal stuff to the whole wheat stuff). But luckily I caught it in time. I even threw some pasta up on the wall to make sure it stuck – and stick it did!
To go with my new spaghetti, I decided to whip up a delicious meat sauce, slightly spicy. I stopped by the grocery store this afternoon for some fresh onion and garlic, tomato puree, and tomato paste. The secret to my sauce is a crushed up chicken bouillon cube and some crushed red pepper, along with basil, oregano, bay leaves, and italian seasoning.
As any pasta lover knows – poor quality whole wheat pasta can taste a bit like cardboard, but this stuff was pretty darn delicious. Even my husband, who only SOMETIMES enjoys pasta, finished up his entire bowel rather quickly. It was just THAT good.
In summary – I GREATLY enjoyed my delicious sample of Mara’s Pasta and am extremely grateful for the opportunity to indulge!
