Starting on a Journey with Les Mills Pump

4 March 2012 6 Comments

Have you seen the movie Anastasia?

The kids version I mean. Random, but when I started writing this journal entry, a song from that movie jumped into my head:

We were strangers, startin out on a journey
Never dreamin’ what we’d have to go through
Now here we are, and Im suddenly standin’
At the beginning with you

Anyways – doesn’t have much to do with workouts – but I am indeed starting out on a journey with a new workout program. One I had literally been counting down the days to its arrival. And Friday- it arrived!

Les Mills Pump

To complete a 90 day program, I decided I am starting with month 2, doing month 2 twice, and then doing month 3. The first video was just way too easy since I have been doing body pump once a week at a local gym here for a month now. I was ready to hop into the fast videos. So yesterday I started with week 6 in the program booklet (the first “month” is 5 weeks) and did the video Pump and Shred.

I recorded all my weights so that I can make sure to improve each time and know where I started at:

*Note that the weights indicated here are the total pounds on the bar. So if it says 20 pounds, that means I had 10 pounds on each side of the bar.

Warm Up Weights: 20 pounds for 2 minutes, ended with 10 pounds

Squats: 20 pounds

Chest: 10 pounds, push-ups: 2 on toes, than finished on my knees

Clean & Press: 10 pounds - definitely need to up this to 20 next time. it was too easy.

Lunges: 10 pounds.

Shoulders (hand weights and push-ups): all knee push ups, started with 5 pound weights for the exercises that were on the ground and switched to 3 pound weights for the exercises where I was standing

Needless to say my shoulders are SO weak. I think that was why Crossfit this past Thursday was so extremely difficult for me. I’m excited to see my shoulders really strengthen up.

On today’s agenda?

The schedule calls for the Hardcore Abs Video and a 45 minute walk. I am excited to try out this ab video. I really love the ab videos from Turbo Fire and Brazil Butt Lifts. I didn’t like the ab video from Insanity as much. But I really like working my abs. Yesterday’s video, Pump and Shred ended with an ab workout as well. But this is 20 minutes of nothing but core body building which should be fun.

Then instead of a walk, I think I am gonna try out the Body Combat that came with the Les Mills Pump Deluxe set. My husband has been wanting to try it so I am hoping we can do it together. Otherwise, I will probably supplement the Ab Video with a bit of Turbo Fire, probably a HIT 15 video.

What are your workouts today? Is sunday your day of rest? Do you schedule your workouts? Leave me a Comment!

Hey Ashley! I find it helpful to schedule my workouts too – mainly because otherwise I have my favorites that I gravitate towards and then I don’t end up with as good of a balance as my muscles need to be properly challenged every few days. I’m excited to try Les Mills Pump – my husband and I love P90X and P90X2 – what do you think of it so far? I think I’ll def go for the deluxe upgrade when I get it..which of the deluxe workouts is your favorite?

    • Ashley says:

Hey Kimberly! I totally agree. I remember when I was doing Turbo Fire I was continuously gravitating to Fire 45 and HIT 15 because they were my favorite. But we gotta stick to a schedule! I like the program so far. Though like I said the first video was too easy for someone who is already in okay shape. I really like the body combat video from the deluxe package! I haven’t yet had a chance to try the Step video, mostly because my husband has done both that and Sports Attack with me and we only own one step. But I will definitely get to it next week!

If you don’t yet have a coach, I would be HONORED to help you and coach you on your journey when you are ready to purchase it. Hey Ashley – thanks for reaching out to me! I try to surround myself with likeminded people who enjoy fitness as much as I do – and your page totally shows it! I believe we come from the same genealogy – Wayne is my coach, and I just became a coach a few months ago! I love having fitness buddies though – and knowing that you have been enjoying Les Mills Pump is already getting me excited about it since I haven’t heard reviews from other females about it yet. Thanks for sharing your opinions! I’ll be sure to share my website info with you once I set one up!

    • Ashley says:

that’s GREAT kimberly! best of luck with it all! my Coaching team actually sets up the websites for the coaches on our team – so if you have any questions as you are setting yours up – just shoot me an email! Ashleysh22{at}gmail.com and I can do my best to help. About the only thing I CANT do is the actual template because my upline did that part for me :)

  3. that seems like a pretty solid workout. I think cardio is important it really gets your body moving and keeping your heart rate up is really healthy.

    • Ashley says:

It definitely is! The cardio on it is better in some videos than others, but I am really enjoying the toning and immediate changes I am seeing in my body as I increase my weight!
