Buttercake, Biscuits, Birthdays Galore!

This past week has been a little rough. I absolutely love seeing and visiting family but I really have a hard time keeping my calories under control. From Saturday February 18 through Wednesday February 22 I ate:

  • cookies
  • pasta (regular, not the whole wheat I would eat at home)
  • lots of grilled cheese (and not made with 1 slice swiss, rye bread, and olive oil like I would make at home)
  • french fries
  • pizza (at least I had mine with lots of veggies! bell peppers, onions, and olives)
  • dumplings
  • butter cake
  • pancakes
  • lots of biscuits
  • and of course a huge Indian dinner for my husband’s birthday.

Can’t say I didn’t love it, but I was averaging 1800 calories a day with no workout, when I generally try just to eat between 1250 and 1500 a day on days that I do not workout. That’s a lot of excess calories.

Now we have both buttercake and ice cream cake in our freezer just begging me to eat some. And today, I just might earn a little bit more.

Thus far today I have been really good. I had a bowl of oatmeal squares for breakfast (mmmm oatmeal squares) and a peach for a mid morning snack. I am currently debating between some pasta with vegetable cattiatiorre (essentially bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes) or a shakeology.

I just finished the Insanity Pure Cardio video, burning 326 calories in 38 minutes. Now that I have a heart rate monitor, I am realizing just how out of shape I truly am. I only had my heart rate in my “ideal zone” for about 14 of those 38 minutes and you have to keep in mind that roughly 10 minutes of that exercise video are warm up stretches and cool down stretches. Needless to say, I am taking these Insanity videos at a slower pace these days, I want to be able to do the whole thing in my “Ideal Heart Rate Zone.”

In any case, it is 2:54 pm – and I have consumed about 391 calories (myfitnesspal.com) and burned 326 calories (polar FT4 HR Monitor). So I can still eat a good 1200-1400 calories today and stay in a healthy range.

Besides – I think I am gonna go do a second workout this evening, a Crossfit – P90X hybrid at the gym  - I’m gonna be seeing an awful lot of family tomorrow through Sunday and I want to start the weekend with a calorie deficit.

Not to mention – Monday is MY birthday!


Keep your head up! And don’t forget! When you have an unhealthy day (or several) just make a point to make tomorrow better!
